OK, looks like Kurt made up his mind and is getting serious about the project. But, if you watch the show, you'll find out he was confused about what show he was doing. He thought it was "Survivor".

Ray's either taking a well deserved break to take on more energy, or he's just gearing up for the challenge. It's always good to take on a little fuel either way.
