'SCI-LOOKING'

The sculpture to the left is entitled
"Sci-Looking", and I leave it to you to determine exactly what that evokes for you. Is it Picasso, Dr. Spock, or possibly Jimmy Durante? Only Caril knows where this one came from and it definitely takes imagination to the limit while exuding character.

Caril Chasen's work has been on display in many different locations. A partial list appears below.

1993 - 'Coming Into Form' - solo exhibition at Northwest National Exhibition Centre, Hazelton, B.C.

1994 - 'Sculpture by Caril Chasens' - solo exhibition at Mountain Gallery, Smithers, B. C.

1995 & 1996 - 'A Place of Animals' - solo exhibition at Ksan Museum, Hazelton, B. C. Also the home of "Moose At The Garden Wall"

1996 - 'Sculpture by Caril Chasens' - solo exhibition at Plaskett Gallery, New Westminster, B. C.

1997 - 'Animals in Mind' - solo exhibition of sculpture in wood, Hazelton District Public Library Gallery

"Pterodactyl" is yet another mood to Caril Chasens work. Incorporating the wonderful grain of alder with a touch of color, it was created in 1999 and is 39" .

In order to understand this facet of Caril's work, it is helpful to review her explanation of her thoughts during childhood. Explaining that she had a space cadet obsession from 1957 to 1965 she defines this obsession as "wanting to look into and through the world, to discover a real world that would not cramp a human being".

The artist's self description is as a person who is in a constant flow of coming up with ideas. And, the focus is on fellow people, fellow beasts and the environment that includes us all.

"PTERODACTYL"

"Minotaur" is a Portrait of Pablo Picasso completed in 2000. Created from Birch and Red Cedar it is 31". It has a suggestion of rebirth and recreation, even as the artist Caril Chasens is constantly recreating herself ever closer to harmony with the environment and the beings surrounding her.
