Handcarved Peacock Egg

On this small peacock egg, Nairi has carved a very fragile web of daisies and foliage. There are tiny veins carved into the leaves with other amazing details featured in this carving.
For highlights, Nairi has used light tea-dye to burnish the daisy petals. It's a great contrast to the natural color of the eggshell.
This carving measures 2 7/8" by 2 1/2". It is surprisingly small for all the detail presented.

Here is the globe carved on an Ostrich egg. Even though an Ostrich egg is larger than most varieties that are carved, it is still harge to imagine the whole world carved onto the surface of an eggshell. But, Nairi has done just that.
Notice the exact symetry of the grid on which the continents are suspended. This exact carving on an eggshell takes masterful skill. Egg carving also takes a very light touch and a steady hand and eye.
This egg measures 7" by 4 1/2".
