Steve says he has truly enjoyed teaching pen turning classes. He holds a class once or twice a month at Woodworkers Emporium here in Las Vegas. To the left you see some of his entranced students as they learn from Steve.
He tells us that his best advice for beginning woodworkers is "Get started. Just do it!" He also advises to ask for help when you need it. Steve knows as we do that woodworkers are some of the most sharing people around when it comes to helping each other out.
Here we see a close up of one of Steve's demonstrations for his class. It's obvious he is at home at the lathe. In his own shop he used to think he couldn't live without his bandsaw. (He is the proud owner of a Delta 14" with a riser kit that he expects to add a 1 1/2 hp motor to very soon.) Now, however, his most favored tool is his lathe. Of course, as he begins working on bigger hollow vessels he automatically thinks of upgrading.

Steve has a woodworking library containing books that he has found helpful in learning his craft. He recommends the following books for woodworkers serious about perfecting their craft:
Woodworking Wisdom ~Rosario Capotosto ~ A Popular Science book
Router Magic - Bill Hylton
Any books by Mike Darlow with whom he had a one on one session
Woodturning books by Dale Nish
Reading The Wood ~ Michael Elkins
Woodturning ~ A Fresh Approach ~ Robert Chapman
Turning Green Wood ~ Michael O'Donnell
Anything by Andrew Crawford and Tony Lydgate on boxes

We expect to offer one of Steve's turned pens very soon as part of a program to reward woodworkers for extroardinary projects. So, watch for an announcement on our home page or sign up for our newsletter to receive notice of the event.

Steve has graciously agreed to respond to any questions or comments you may have regarding his work or classes. Just contact him at the link below. Click on his name to send an email.
